Out For Blood

This piece hit me in the headphones today and it demanded my attention. Epic in scale, Out For Blood is off the 2014 Epic Score album entitled Strength To Believe and it is amazing. Every time I wonder how these guys can keep this going, if they can surpass their previous pieces of ridiculous melodies, magnificent arrangements, and soaring vocals, they hit me with a new track that clears the bar all the time.

Blood starts off dramatic, there is no slow intro here. It gets into full groove almost right away with the pounding percussion keeping the tempo alive. It's got a great melody and the arrangement keeps this piece from getting boring. The layering of the vocals on top of all that's going on is a masterstroke. I'm having a hard time not keeping this on repeat because it has definitely moved up in the queue.

If you're a fan of epic music or position music then you should check out Strength To Believe. It won't disappoint. And if you like this cut in particular then I highly recommend you check out Tower Fall off this same album. Enjoy and you're welcome.

Forging a New Light

The second this song hits my ears my energy levels rise. This piece by Danny Cocke entitled Forging a New Light always seems to put some serious pep in my step. This song is off Danny's 2012 release Verge of Total Chaos and I never get tired of hearing it. I am a big fan of what's known as "trailer music" or "epic music" and Danny Cocke has put some amazing stuff together in the genre, especially this song.

Forging starts off nice and light with some foreboding darkness with the strings and the voices, then suddenly the piece picks up steam and a rhythm. The percussion soon joins in along with the voices and it seems to be headed toward a crescendo only to fall away at the 1:18 mark. The respite is over quickly though as the song comes back stronger and more alive with horns adding to the body of the piece. The horns along with the voices and the strings bring this song to a crashing finale, punctuated by the nice fade to silence.

I haven't heard this piece attached to any trailer as of yet, which is surprising. However should I get the chance to be a part of a movie in any way, say for instance I write a book that gets made into a movie, I am suggesting this track for the trailer. It's THAT good. And if you like this then definitely check out Sinister Intent (which was the trailer music for Elysium) and The Guardians by him. Enjoy!

Nothing Can Keep Me Away

This is a piece of music I have been aware of for awhile now. For some reason today, it struck that nerve and excited me to the point where I felt the need to blog about it, to share it with you. The name of the song is Nothing Can Keep Me Away. Released back in 2011 on the 10th volume of the Epic & Adventure series, Nothing is amazing especially when heard the way it should be heard, on those big boy speakers.

It's short, no more than two minutes and six seconds but it packs a serious punch. It starts off innocuous enough, just a beat, percussion, and some melody. It moves on and grows darker and more menacing until there's an explosion of sound and the melody becomes more prominent. If you can hear the low end you can hear massive percussive hits, and then the vocals come in which ramp up the intensity. And just like that, the song is over.

Maybe I finally heard all the nuances to this piece today, maybe I listened to it at the volume it was supposed to be listened to. Whatever the reason is, today this song hit me and I felt it was worthy of inclusion on my blog and to be shared with you.

Indestructible

When I heard this song for the first time I ran to put it on the big boy speakers. It blew me away. The song is Indestructible and it packs a wallop. It's off the 2012 album Immortal by 8Dawn and I am a pretty big fan of their music. I feel this track is worthy of being on my blog if not worthy of some specific movie trailers that could the punch of this music.

As it fades in you get the sense that something big is about to happen. Then the drums come in bring  along all the epic drama you could want a song like this to possess. The song screams action with every note. My only issue with it is it could use more low end. There isn't enough rumble for my buck but that doesn't in any way diminish this piece.

I hear this piece and the one trailer that comes to mind is Pacific Rim, the new film by Guillermo Del Toro. This piece would have worked perfectly with those images of giant robots and monsters slugging it out in my opinion. Take a listen and see if you agree with me!

Mythical Hero

This lush piece of music is from Veiger Margeirsson and it's entitled Mythical Hero. It's off his 2012 release Rise Above. It's epic in scope and grandeur as well as lush in sound. It's uplifting as well and I have grown to really admire it. My only complaint is that it's far too short. Another minute or two wouldn't have hurt, at least I don't think so. Tell me what you think. Enjoy!

They Hit Without Warning

This is one of my favorite pieces of music to write to. Actually it's just one of my favorite pieces of music period. Every now and then on my blog I drop in a piece of epic music that has touched me and inspired me in a certain way. Allow me to introduce to you another one of those masterpieces, it's entitled They Hit Without Warning. This tune is intense and it should be played on your big boy speakers so you can get all the nuances  of the rumble.

It starts off ominously and slowly cranks up into gear. Something is coming, you can feel it and when it does it hits hard. There's a slight respite but then the orchestra slams into you and the voices come soaring in, taking this song to another level. The intensity builds to a maddening crescendo of music and voices and percussion and then it suddenly stops and you're dropped off a cliff as the song fades out.

They Hit Without Warning is a song of extremes, quiet then loud, soft and then hard, subtle and then massive. It is truly an epic  piece of music and I can listen to this continuously as I'm writing because this song takes me on a journey. I hope it takes you on one as well. Enjoy!

Time Will Remember Us

I was on the subway dealing with a massively long delay (as the NYC Subways have been known to make its riders endure) and this song came up next on the playlist. The second I heard it I was reminded of a debate I had with another fellow music lover about whether or not epic scores could touch ones soul. Grandiose conversation I know, I know but to me this song and one other much like it have that ability to make you feel it.

It's a beautiful piece called Time Will Remember Us is off of the Epic Score Volume 6 collection and it's one of my favorites. Don't ask me who did it, don't know. Don't ask me why it was created, don't know. It's been in no movie I've seen (and I see a LOT of movies) or trailer which is surprising because this can definitely be considered trailer music. It starts off with a dark piano melody which carries you into the intense strings. The strings and piano then carry you into the orchestration which then carries you into the next movement, the surprising percussion. Then comes the drums which adds a flavor you wouldn't expect, then comes the voices and this thing takes flight.

It ends like it begins, coming full circle back to the lone piano taking you out. I think it's a beautiful piece of music and one worth listening to on your BBS (that's big boy speakers if you don't know by now) because it will truly impress. Enjoy.
